As a wedding guitarist, I’ve been lucky to play at the GTB many times over the years, and it’s been amazing to witness the evolution of this stunning venue.
It’s always been an absolutely beautiful venue, but with the recent renovations and redesign the Great Tythe Barn has really been elevated. It’s truly one of the most breathtaking wedding venues in the Cotswolds.
Weddings at the GTB – Rustic and Refined
The barn itself is full of character. Think warm Cotswold stone walls, high oak beams and soft lighting that makes the whole place glow in the evening. It’s beautifully restored, but still keeps that authentic, rustic vibe that couples love. The surrounding estate gives you so many options for photos too – manicured lawns, winding paths and a cluster of pretty cottages that make for a picture-perfect backdrop.
Ceremonies are usually held either inside the main barn (ideal for cosy winter weddings) or outside on the lawn in the warmer months. The team are brilliant at transforming the space, and they will be able to recommend the very best suppliers who are experienced in setting the scene for your perfect day.
Setting the Scene with Live Music
Live music fits this venue perfectly. The acoustics inside the barn are lovely – rich and warm – so an acoustic guitar with subtle amplification really fills the space beautifully without overpowering it. I’ve played everything from relaxed fingerstyle tracks as guests arrive, to upbeat acoustic versions of party favourites for drinks on the lawn.
The courtyard outside is a great spot for a drinks reception set; everyone mingling with a drink in hand while the music drifts through the air. Think chilled acoustic covers, or upbeat tracks with the loop pedal while guests enjoy the afternoon sun, or sit around the fire pit in the evening.
Location and Practical Details
The Great Tythe Barn is just outside Tetbury, tucked away enough to feel secluded but easily reachable for guests. There’s plenty of on-site accommodation too – a huge bonus! There’s space for weddings with up to 200 guests, and accommodation for up to 90.
Final Thoughts
I love the GTB – I’ve always said that if I was to arrange my wedding again, this is where I’d go!
From a performer’s perspective, the venue is brilliantly organised. Access and setup are straightforward, and the staff are always friendly and flexible – which honestly makes a huge difference on the day. Nothing is too much for the brilliant team at the GTB, and you can guarantee they will do everything to make your big day smooth, special and memorable.
It’s easy to see why The Great Tythe Barn is such a loved Cotswolds wedding venue. It’s steeped in character, surrounded by beautiful countryside, and creates a perfect setting for a relaxed but elegant celebration.
